‘After Rotten Meat, Kashmir Gets Rotten Rice’ – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: In a concerning development following the shocking seizure of rotten meat in different parts of Kashmir valley recently. Around 36 trucks carrying rice from Punjab have arrived at the FCI Store in Shilvat, area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora. However, concerns have been raised after spoiled rice bags were found in several trucks.

Speaking to the media, local people said, as reported by Kashmir Life, that a large quantity of the rice appears to be rotten and unfit for consumption. They have demanded that the Food Department must immediately inspect the stock and determine whether it is safe for public distribution.

When contacted, the Store Manager, he stated that, “I personally inspected one of the trucks and found that it contained spoiled rice. I have reported the matter to the higher authorities, who are now looking into it. Until a proper solution is found, I will not allow the unloading of this rice.”

A team that assessed the rice at the store also acknowledged the poor condition of the stock. They admitted that the rice is indeed spoiled and not suitable for consumption. “We are currently checking how many trucks contain damaged rice. For now, the supply will be withheld. Only after cleaning and proper verification will any stock be distributed,” the team said.

Recently, after hundreds of Kilograms of putrefied meat were seized by the JK Drug and Food Control Department on July 31, consumers in Kashmir have been shaken over the lack of quality food products being delivered.
