Rajouri, Feb 28: In a major leap towards boosting forensic as well as technical based investigation right at the ground level, the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) is working on a research project to establish a mobile forensic laboratory on two wheeler (motorcycle).

The work to design this laboratory on two wheeler has been taken up by the university after it successfully designed laboratory on four wheels which are now being rolled out by state policies authorities and twenty three have already been procured in Jammu and Kashmir Police.

In interaction with journalists from J&K and Punjab Haryana who were on visit to university under a tour organised by PIB Jammu in collaboration with PIB Gujarat, the Vice Chancellor of NFSU, Dr. J.M. Vyas said that newly implemented laws i.e. BNSS have revolutionised the overall law system in country and it has been made mandatory that a forensic officer, expert shall visit the site of crime which amounts to an offense having punishment of imprisonment of more than seven years.

” On one hand we face shortage of forensic experts and on other hand only some mobile forensic equipment were available with field teams.” said VC who added that on one hand university will overcome shortage of forensic experts through courses and studies to overcome shortage of experts while it is taking speedy steps of boosting forensic investigation practices to overcome second challenge.

He informed that after dedicated research, university has designed forensic laboratory on four wheeler vehicle that has already been rolled out while university is now conducting a research to design a similar laboratory but this time on two wheeler.

” Once designed and rolled out, the two wheeler forensic laboratory will play a big role in fulfilling the requirement of forensic based investigation at grassroot level especially in the areas where road connectivity is a challenge and two wheelers can easily make it to the sports,” said Dr. Vyas.

On the other hand, Prof. (Dr.) S.O. Junare and other staffers while briefing about already rolled out Forensic Laboratory on Wheels (Four wheeler vehicle) stated that the vehicle is equipped with every required facility of forensic examination, investigation and testing at grassroot level.

” We are happy to say that this marvellous forensic laboratory on wheels has been designed in our university and dedicated to the world.” said Dr. Junare.

The experts of unit while sharing insights said that the laboratory is equipped with kit to confirm gunshot residue, narcotics presence in any sample, 3D forensic based photography and all other required techniques for on spot forensic examination of any crime site.

The vehicle is also covered with CCTV surveillance from all sides which ensures around the clock monitoring of vehicle movement.

” It’s a completely equipped vehicle that will do onsite forensic examination of any kind of crime site.” the experts narrated.

Replying to a series of queries of Greater Kashmir team, the university administration informed that twenty three of these laboratories have been provided in Jammu and Kashmir.

” More provision is as per demand of J&K Government and state police and it is their mandate to decide on purchase of new vehicles if required.” the experts and university administration added.
