
Srinagar: Police in Shopian have apprehended an accused who had been evading arrest for over three decades. The accused, identified as Ab. Rashid Sheikh, son of Ab. Rehman Sheikh, a resident of Karewa Manloo, Shopian, had been wanted since 1989 in connection with FIR No. 160/1989 under Sections 379 RPC and 6 Forest Act.
According to a police statement, Sheikh had been deliberately avoiding the legal process for 36 years, despite a warrant under Section 512 CrPC issued by the Hon’ble Court. Following sustained surveillance and consistent efforts, he was finally apprehended and produced before the Court in Shopian for further legal proceedings.
Police officials said the arrest represents a major achievement in the ongoing campaign to trace and bring long-time absconders to justice.
Reiterating its commitment to uphold the rule of law, Shopian Police affirmed that efforts will continue to ensure all individuals attempting to evade justice are held accountable through due legal process.
