SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday said it has trapped and arrested a Mineral Supervisor of the Geology and Mining Department for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
ACB received a written complaint alleging that Basharat Habib, a Mineral Supervisor in the Geology and Mining Department, was demanding a bribe in exchange for allowing the lifting of minor minerals (sand).
“Upon receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand for bribe by the public servant. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended), was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and investigation was initiated,” reads a statement issued by ACB.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. “The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was taken into custody on the spot.”
It is pertinent to mention that just two days ago, another official from the same department was caught red-handed by the ACB while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in the Safapora area. Further investigation in the current case is underway. (KNO)
