Overwhelmed by the emotions, Absyu’s father Ramnish Kumar Sharma, who is in the Police Department, while commenting upon the magnificent achievement of his son during interaction with media persons, stated, “This is the biggest day of my life. We, as the parents, are so happy that words will fail to describe our emotions. We first thank God for bringing this glorious moment in our life when our son not only cleared this prestigious exam but made everyone proud by bringing first rank. After that I would say it was consistent hard work of our child (Absyu) with focus on his mission that brought him success. His uncle, himself into civil services and Absyu’s elder brother, who is an IB officer presently too helped him a lot in motivating and preparing for the exams.”
His mother, with tears of joy in her eyes, said, “I’m still not able to believe that my dream, I envisioned for so long, has been accomplished by my son. I would watch videos of beaming parents celebrating the success of their children. I’m living those moments right now due to my Absyu. It’s a surreal feeling.”
Absyu, with a poise in his smile, while responding to media queries stated that he tasted success in his second attempt in the civil services – his only aim in life.
“In the first attempt, I could only clear the prelim but did not meet success in the Mains exam. This time I worked on those flaws. My optional is also a bit unconventional – Philosophy subject. Though my mentors, guides had cautioned against this (optional) choice stating that it would not help in good scoring. But I had strong conviction and faith in my abilities. Consistency and hard work form the key to success,” Absyu shared.
Sharing his regimen, he pointed out that he preferred to remain away from social media except whatsapp and Telegram, especially the latter which proved useful in accessing important lectures. He shared that he had to make sacrifices in his social life to achieve his mission with devotion.
Simranjeet, daughter of Lakhwinder Singh- a teacher, a resident of Vijaypur in Samba district, who scored second rank in the prestigious exam, too stated that she always aspired for a career as a civil servant. After her 12th standard, she pursued studies in Political Science from Delhi University.
“During that period only I started self-studying, comprehending and analysing the foundational structure of my subjects. My family helped handle my mood swings. My key to success has been self-study with unflinching family support,” she stated, while responding to media queries. Simranjeet pointed out that she was preparing for the UPSC exam and JKAS success came as the first step to her integrated preparatory schedule.
Remarkable success of Harshit Sharma, son of Raj Kumar Sharma, a resident of Akhnoor, who ranked third in the list of qualifiers too delineated story of perseverance and hard work.
Another JKAS qualifier Sonali Sharma, who bagged sixth rank in the overall list, worked with “never say die” spirit to achieve her mission. She belongs to Bishnah in Jammu district.
“This was my second attempt. Therefore, the days before the result was a kind of “see-saw” experience for me. I was hoping for the best – at times confident and the next moment my previous experience would shake it a bit. But I had worked harder this time,” Sonali stated, while speaking to Greater Kashmir.
“Though entire family including my brother served as my support system, it was my sister who actually made me inclined towards civil services when I was figuring out what to do in my life. She (sister) is presently serving as Assistant Professor in Central University of Punjab in Bathinda. After completing my graduation from Gandhinagar College, I did my certificate course in Remote Sensing and Image Analysis from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO) and currently I’m pursuing my Masters in Geography from University of Delhi,” Sonali shared, asserting, “Consistency with hard work never fails one.”
Bhumika Mahajan, who scored 8th rank with Economics as her optional subject, dedicated her success to her parents. “In fact, I realised the dream of my father, who himself is a business man in Jammu. After completing my BA, I started preparing for the civil services exam. Consistent efforts ensured success in the first attempt,” she said.
“Be consistent and resilient; work hard and smart – are the mantras of success for everyone, I believe and it worked for me too. It is taking time to sink in …this wonderful feeling which is beyond words,” beaming Bhumika Mahajan shared with Greater Kashmir.
