SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday arrested a long-time absconder who had been evading arrest for the past ten years in connection with an attempt to murder case.
Police identified the accused as Abdul Hamid Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Peerpora. He was wanted in FIR No. 81/2015, registered under Section 307 RPC (attempt to murder).
Officials said a warrant under Section 512 CrPC had been issued by the Hon’ble Court against the accused, who had managed to remain at large for nearly a decade. Acting on credible inputs, a special police team traced and apprehended him from his native area.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the Hon’ble Court as per the prescribed legal formalities. Police officials said the arrest highlights their continued efforts to bring long-absconding offenders to justice.
Locals commended the police action, saying such operations strengthen public trust and serve as a deterrent against habitual offenders.
