
SRINAGAR: In a continued crackdown on drug peddling, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested four persons in separate operations in Awantipora and Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Awantipora, a police team from the Toll Plaza Post intercepted a Tavera vehicle (registration number RJ14TB-6291) at Kaigam Crossing. The two occupants, identified as Zahid Ahmad Sheikh and Mehraj Ahmad Ragga — both residents of Hamdani Colony, Bemina — were found in possession of 65 grams of charas-like substance. They were arrested on the spot, and a case under FIR No. 213/2025 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
In a separate operation in Kupwara, a police team from Police Station Sogam intercepted two suspects near Eidgah, Tekipora. The duo, identified as Nisar Ahmad Magray of Wani Doursa and Arshid Ahmad Khan of Tekipora, were found carrying charas-like substance wrapped in green polythene. Both were arrested, and a case under FIR No. 56/2025 has been registered under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sogam.
Police have urged the public to cooperate in their anti-drug campaign and share information related to narcotics or other crimes by contacting the nearest police unit or dialling 112.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from society.
