Srinagar: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Baramulla MP Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh to file an affidavit declaring that no other criminal cases are pending against him, while hearing his regular bail plea in a case investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Inam un nabi, Party Spokesperson of Er. Rashid’s party, said as per news agency KNO, that the party remains confident of a fair judicial process. “We are hopeful that justice will prevail. We have complete faith in the Constitution and the judiciary. Er. Rashid is innocent and has been a victim of political vendetta since 2019,” the spokesperson said.
The court listed the matter for further hearing on October 15.
It may be recalled that the regular bail application was moved before the Delhi High Court after the NIA court had earlier dismissed Er. Rashid’s plea for release.
Engineer Rashid, who contested and won the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate, has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 following his arrest by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with an alleged terror-funding case.
