
Ganderbal: In a continued effort to curb the menace of narcotics in the district, Ganderbal Police on Monday apprehended a drug peddler and seized a contraband substance from his possession during a routine patrol in the Kangan area.
According to a police statement, officers from Police Station Kangan, while conducting routine patrolling near Old Akhal Bridge, noticed a man behaving suspiciously. “Upon being searched, a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.”
The individual was identified as Riyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan, a resident of Parun Kunmulla, Akhal, as per the statement.
Police have registered a case under FIR No. 67/2025 in terms of relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Kangan, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and network of the contraband.
Reaffirming its commitment to a drug-free society, the Ganderbal Police urged residents to cooperate in its anti-drug campaign by sharing credible information regarding drug trafficking or peddling activities in their areas.
