The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the TRC Football Ground, who declared the games open by ceremonially kicking a football. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Director General Youth Services and Sports Anuradha Gupta, and Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, among other dignitaries.

The multi-sport event will feature competitions in Football, Wushu, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis, showcasing young sporting talent from across India.

Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah said that sports foster unity, friendship, and understanding among young people from diverse regions. “Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to be here with you at the inauguration of the 69th National School Games,” he said.

Acknowledging the unfavourable weather, the Chief Minister assured participants of full government support and urged organisers to ensure players’ comfort and safety. “If any of you face inconvenience—whether a shortage of warm clothing or any other requirement—please approach us. We will do everything possible to make your stay and participation comfortable,” he said.

Encouraging the athletes, Abdullah added, “Winning is not as important as taking part. I sincerely appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm in coming here to participate.”

A march past by 30 participating teams drew applause from the Chief Minister and a large gathering of schoolchildren and spectators. Players, coaches, and team officials also took an oath of sportsmanship, pledging to uphold fair play, discipline, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
