
SRINAGAR: Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar is celebrating a landmark achievement as five of its students have been selected to represent India at the 3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2025-26. The championship, currently underway at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC) in Srinagar, features participants from 11 countries and 12 teams.
The event was inaugurated on September 26 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, in the presence of Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed (Pardesi), Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, along with coaches, officials, and athletes from across Asia.
The DPS Srinagar students representing India include Hurriyah Showkat, Samma, and Alishiba Jeelani from Class 11, along with Mysha Bilal and Nehal Zubair from Class 10. Their selection highlights their dedication, skill, and consistent hard work in the martial art of Pencak Silat.
Principal Shafaq Afshan expressed her pride, saying, “This is a remarkable accomplishment and a proud moment for the entire DPS Srinagar community.” Chairman Vijay Dhar added, “To have five of our own represent the nation is a matter of great honour. It reflects not only the students’ perseverance but also the quality and commitment of training at our institution. We wholeheartedly support them and wish them the very best as they compete with the finest athletes in Asia. They are a source of inspiration for us all.”
The championship is jointly organised by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and the J&K Sports Council, with the official confirmation of selection provided by the Pencak Silat Association of Jammu & Kashmir.
