Lolab (Kupwara): As a part of the ongoing Seva Parv being observed across the country, Medical Block Sogam on Tuesday organised a health awareness camp at Diver Lolab under the Central Government’s flagship campaign “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan.”

The initiative, aimed at empowering women through preventive healthcare and awareness, has been rolled out nationwide during the Seva Pakhwada, a fortnight dedicated to service-oriented activities such as health camps, blood donation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and welfare programmes. The campaign underscores the government’s focus on making healthcare more accessible, especially for women and children in rural and far-flung areas.

The programme in Lolab, part of a series being conducted across the block since the past week, witnessed active participation from women and adolescent girls. Many availed free health check-ups, counselling sessions, and guidance on nutrition, maternal care, hygiene, and reproductive health. Informational material was also distributed to encourage regular health screenings and address issues often left unattended due to stigma or lack of facilities.

The camp was organised with the joint support of the Health Department, local Army units, Police, and the ICDS department. Block Medical Officer Sogam, Dr. Javed, SHO Lalpora Showkat Ahmad Darzi, Supervisor ICDS Block Sogam Dr. Jahangir Ahmad, Army officers, health activists, and paramedical staff attended and interacted with participants.

Community members welcomed the outreach, highlighting that such initiatives are vital in regions like Lolab, where healthcare access is often limited. “These programmes help us understand our health needs better and give us confidence to take care of ourselves and our families,” said a group of women attendees. Others expressed hope that similar drives will continue in future, enabling consistent health education and services in remote corners of the Valley.
