Kupwara Man Held for ₹50 Lakh Fraud Posing as LG’s Duty Officer – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir apprehended a fraudster involved in a major impersonation and financial scam.

According to a media statement issued by Crime Branch Kashmir, one Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir from Lishtiyal, Kupwara, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 10/2025 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused, the statement reads, falsely represented himself as a Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.

He allegedly assured victims of government job placements and land allotments at SDA Colony, Bemina, Srinagar, illegally collecting over ₹50 lakh from them.

Investigations uncovered that Mir forged appointment letters, purportedly issued by the Airport Authority of India, and fabricated land allotment documents from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA). These acts involved serious violations of law.

Charges have been framed under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC. The accused was presented before the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Srinagar, and the court remanded him to police custody for five days to facilitate further investigation.
