Srinagar: Ganderbal Police have registered two separate FIRs and arrested the accused after uncovering instances of storage and sale of rotten meat and expired food items, officials said on Friday.

A police official said that a special team from Police Station Safapora, accompanied by the Food Safety Officer and Executive Magistrate, raided a shop at Kondabal Safapora following reliable information about the sale of unhygienic meat.

The shop, owned by Abdul Hameed Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone of Kondabal, was found storing a large quantity of frozen boiled meat items, including Rista and Kabab, in rotten and unhygienic conditions. “The items were declared unsafe for consumption.”

“An FIR (No. 14/2025) under sections 271, 272, 274, and 275 of BNS was registered at Police Station Safapora, and the accused was arrested,” said the officials.

In a separate incident, Police Station Ganderbal acted on information that Hotel Matamal Food Sale Point at Beehama was using expired eatables in food preparation. During inspection, expired items were seized from the kitchen.

“An FIR (No. 145/2025) was registered under the same sections of BNS, and the accused was taken into custody,” the officials added.
