Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Yasha Mudgal, on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review of the Directorate of YSS to assess departmental performance, youth engagement, and future initiatives.

She directed the Director General YSS to ensure year-round sports activities across all schools in Jammu and Kashmir and called for a detailed format to capture student enrolment in each sport for gap analysis and targeted interventions. Stressing gender-inclusive growth, she asked the department to compare youth participation levels with the national average and adopt best practices from states with higher girl child enrolment in sports.

Mudgal reviewed the scholarship scheme and instructed the DG to propose enhanced financial support for medal winners and young players. She also asked for identification of encumbrance-free land, particularly within schools, to be developed into zonal mini-stadia. To identify grassroots talent, the department was tasked with organizing UT-wide talent hunts.

She further directed the department to prepare a proposal for establishing a Youth Culture Centre to integrate extracurricular activities, including performing arts. On HR matters, the DG was told to update seniority lists, conduct timely DPCs, and expedite disposal of SRO-43, RAS, and RDA cases.

Highlighting sports tourism, the Commissioner Secretary asked the department to explore Bhaderwah as a winter sports destination, especially for skiing. The DG YSS also presented a detailed PowerPoint on departmental functioning.

The meeting was attended by the Director General YSS, Special Secretary YSS, Director Finance, Joint Director Jammu, Additional Secretary, Deputy Director Central, Deputy Director Planning, and other officers.
