2-day soft tennis championship wraps up in Srinagar, 120 youngsters take part

Srinagar, Aug 25: The two-day Srinagar District Amateur Soft Tennis Championship 2025–26 concluded on Monday at Gindun Stadium Rajbagh, drawing 120 student players and signalling a growing interest in the sport among the region’s youth.

As per a statement issued by the Srinagar District Amateur Soft Tennis Association under the banner of the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association and in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from 120 students, who demonstrated great skill, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Participants competed across multiple categories, showcasing the growing talent and interest in soft tennis in the district. The championship aimed not only to provide a platform for young players to compete but also to foster a spirit of healthy competition and fitness among the youth.

Chief Guest Bashir Ahmad Bhat, DDC Khansahib, graced the closing ceremony and applauded the participants for their dedication and passion for the sport. He appreciated the efforts of the organising committee and encouraged continued focus on youth engagement through sports.

Other dignitaries present during the closing ceremony included Dilbagh Singh, tennis coach and manager, Gindun Stadium Rajbagh; GN Wani, chairman, J&K Soft Tennis Association; and Gulzar, senior coach.

Winners were felicitated with medals and certificates, while all participants received certificates of participation, promoting encouragement and sustained interest in the game.

The Srinagar District Amateur Soft Tennis Association’s continued commitment to developing grassroots talent and promoting soft tennis among young athletes was widely acknowledged and appreciated.

The successful conclusion of this championship reinforces the importance of such initiatives in strengthening the sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
