ACB Arrests Cop for Accepting Bribe

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday trapped and arrested a policeman presently posted at Police Post Lam (Nowshera), Rajouri, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

In a statement issued, ACB said it received a complaint alleging that the complainant was called to Police Post Lam telephonically by Sgct Arif Iqbal on the basis of a complaint lodged by a person from Pukharni, Tehsil Qila Darhal, District Rajouri. The said Sgct demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe for himself and the Incharge of Police Post Lam for not implicating him in that case or complaint.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached ACB to take legal action. After discreet verification, FIR No. 05/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri, and investigation was initiated.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant Sgct Arif Iqbal of Police Post Lam, Nowshera, District Rajouri, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10000 from the complainant. The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law. Moreover, a search was also conducted in the residential house of the accused public servant.
