SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Friday evening issued a nowcast warning predicting rain and thundershowers across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few hours, with potential for intense weather activity in certain areas.

According to the forecast, a spell of rain and thunderstorms is expected at many locations in North and Central Kashmir, along with a few parts of South Kashmir including Shopian, and the Rajouri and Banihal-Ramban axis, during the next 3 to 5 hours.

The MET Centre further warned of intense heavy showers accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds over the next 1 to 2 hours in select areas. These include parts of Bandipora, the Ganderbal-Kangan-Sonamarg axis, North and Central Srinagar, and parts of the Banihal-Ramban sector.

There is also a possibility of landslides or mudslides in vulnerable areas due to the expected downpour, the advisory noted.

As a precaution, residents and tourists have been urged to suspend Shikara rides and boating activities, and to stay away from old trees, electric wires, poles, and unstable structures during the weather event.

The department continues to monitor the situation and has advised people to follow official weather updates and safety instructions.
