SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has issued an order to take over the management of 215 schools allegedly affiliated with the proscribed organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT).
The order states that the decision has been taken to safeguard the academic future of the students. According to the Government Order, the Ministry of Home Affairs had declared the Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, an unlawful association.
Intelligence agencies have since identified a number of schools directly or indirectly affiliated with the organisation, and the validity of the managing committees for these 215 schools has either expired or been reported on adversely.
The order directs the concerned District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners to take over the management of these schools and propose a new managing committee after due verification.
The officials have also been directed to ensure that the academic careers of the enrolled students are not affected and that quality education, as per National Education Policy (NEP) norms, is maintained.
The list of schools includes institutions from districts such as Anantnag, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Shopian, and Srinagar, reads the order. (JKNS)
