SRINAGAR: Dental surgeons from various parts of Kashmir held a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday, raising concerns over the long-pending recruitment process for government positions in the Union Territory.

The protest, attended by dozens of dental professionals, took place at the Press Enclave Srinagar. The participants said that despite repeated assurances from authorities, no new recruitment has been conducted for years, leaving many qualified professionals in uncertainty.

One of the protesting dental surgeons said many of them have completed their postgraduate studies, but there is no recruitment in sight. “It is disheartening that our skills remain underutilised while patients continue to suffer,” she said.

Another participant added that the lack of job opportunities is not only affecting their careers but also the overall healthcare system in Jammu and Kashmir. “Patients are facing delays and inadequate dental care due to the shortage of government-employed dentists,” he said.

Meanwhile, the protesters demanded an immediate announcement of vacancies and the commencement of recruitment processes for all pending positions in government dental hospitals and health centres across the Union Territory. (KNO)
