Salal Dam gates opened

Ramban, Aug 12: Following the heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours at various places in Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban district of Chenab Valley and Reasi district, all the gates of the Salal Dam were opened on Tuesday to manage the water level in the Salal Dam reservoir.

An official of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) said that following heavy rainfall, multiple gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district were opened due to a rising water level in the River Chenab.

He said the gates were opened to maintain the water level in the dam.

Authorities have advised people living near the riverbanks to stay away from the river due to increased water flow.

To manage water levels, the gates of Salal Dam have been opened to discharge excessive water downstream.

Meanwhile, rain disrupted normal life with landslides and waterlogging, blocking several roads in the district.

However, despite challenging weather conditions, the district administration of Reasi deployed men and machinery of the concerned agencies like the Public Works Department (PWD) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to restore vehicular traffic movement on various link roads.
