Sakina Itoo Inaugrates Science Block at GHSS DK Marg in South Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education Sakeena Itoo on today inaugurated the newly constructed Science Block at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) DK Marg area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and attended a high-profile Cluster Parent-Teacher Meet (PTM).

The event was attended by Director School Education Kashmir, CEO Kulgam, Principal GHSS DK Marg, SDM DH Pora, senior district officials, faculty members, and students.

Addressing the gathering, Itoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to quality education. She said modern, well-equipped learning spaces are being created across Jammu and Kashmir, with special attention to remote areas. “Our students have immense talent, and we are determined to provide platforms for them to excel in academics, sports, and other fields,” she asserted.

The Minister announced that schools will soon be equipped with essential amenities such as washrooms, fencing, and upgraded facilities to foster a better learning environment. She also highlighted the government’s focus on education and health as the backbone of inclusive development.

Turning to tourism, Itoo said DH Pora and its surrounding natural gems, Aharbal, Kongwattan, Kounsarnag, and Panchan Pathri would be developed as major eco-tourism destinations. She pledged skill development for local youth in tourism-related trades to create self-employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy.

During the ceremony, the Minister felicitated a NEET achiever and an athlete from the institution. Later, she visited GHSS KB Pora to participate in another PTM, where she distributed aids and appliances to Children with Special Needs.

Itoo emphasised that the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to holistic growth, with infrastructure upgrades and staff augmentation in schools and hospitals forming a key part of its developmental roadmap.
