Over 140 athletes compete in Anantnag martial arts, volleyball events

Anantnag, Aug 8: Anantnag’s sporting spirit was on full display as the District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) hosted a high-octane Mixed Martial Arts Day alongside the kickoff of U-15 volleyball selection trials. The twin events drew over 140 young athletes, showcasing raw talent, discipline, and a hunger to represent the district at higher levels.

As per a statement issued, participants impressed spectators and officials alike with their exceptional skills, discipline, and sportsmanship. The competitions provided a vibrant platform to not only celebrate martial arts but also to scout promising young talent from the grassroots level.

Winners were felicitated for their remarkable performances, while all participants were commended for their dedication and spirited display.

It is pertinent to mention that the success of the event was further enriched by the expertise and guidance of seasoned martial arts professionals, including Wasim Raja Tantray, Umar Jan Shah, Talib Hussain Shah, Aadil Ahmad Bhat, and Shahid Ul Haq Gaine, whose presence inspired the young athletes. On this occasion the DYSSO Anantnag extended heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants, reiterating its commitment to promoting martial arts and nurturing sports talent in the district.

The two-day selection trials for U-15 boys and girls in volleyball at MS Bondailgam will participate in the World School Volleyball Championship at Shangin, China, after following the national within India.

On the opening day, 27 boys from various zones showcased their skills, leading to the selection of a 12-member team for the upcoming Provincial Level U-15 Volleyball Championship. Trials for girls will be held tomorrow at the same venue.
