SRINAGAR: The Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, is set to host a grand open auction of handwoven carpets at the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT), Bagh-e-Ali Mardan Khan, Srinagar, on August 8, 2025. The auction will commence at 11:30 am under the supervision of a designated Auction Committee.

The event follows the department’s recent sale of trainee-crafted handicraft and handloom products, which witnessed an overwhelming public response. Encouraged by the enthusiastic turnout and strong demand, the department has decided to extend the Handloom Day celebrations through this special carpet auction.

“These carpets have been woven by trainees as part of departmental training initiatives and represent authentic Kashmiri craftsmanship,” a senior department official said, noting the auction aims to promote traditional arts while supporting artisan development.

Earlier, the department’s sale event at Kashmir Haat attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, underscoring growing public interest in supporting local handloom and handicraft industries.

Interested individuals, collectors, and businesses have been invited to take part in the auction, which offers a rare chance to acquire handcrafted Kashmiri carpets and contribute to the preservation of regional heritage.
