Kishtwar, Aug 7: The 2nd District Kishtwar Amateur Athletics Meet was held on Thursday at the historic Chowgan Ground, with over 200 enthusiastic athletes—both boys and girls—from various schools and institutions across the district participating.
The meet featured a range of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m races, as well as shot put and discus throw. The event showcased the growing interest in athletics and provided a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their potential.
Tehsildar Nagseni Mohd Rafi Naik was the chief guest, while District Information Officer of Kishtwar Dr Kuldeep Kumar attended as the guest of honour.
Sanjeev Parihar, Chairman of the Ashaian Hostel Orphanage, generously sponsored refreshments for all athletes and officials, contributing to the encouraging atmosphere.
The competition was professionally officiated by Suman Kant (PET), Vishal Bhandari, Sohit Krishan and Amit Sen, whose efforts ensured smooth execution of the events.
The chief guest commended the discipline and sporting spirit of the young athletes. He emphasised the importance of sports in holistic development and nation-building, encouraging students to actively pursue physical fitness alongside academics.
