Five Gamblers Arrested in North Kashmir, Stake Money Seized

SRINAGAR: Police in Handwara have arrested five individuals for gambling and seized stake money and playing cards during a raid conducted in the Langate area, as part of an ongoing crackdown on social evils.

The operation was carried out following a specific tip-off regarding illegal gambling activities. A team from Police Post Langate acted swiftly and raided the location, apprehending the accused while they were caught red-handed gambling.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Majeed Sheikh of Vodhoora, Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh of Sheikh Mohalla Langate, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh of Rambagh, Srinagar, Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Kargama, and Shabir Ahmad Sheikh of Qamarwari, Srinagar.

During the raid, officers seized stake money amounting to ₹8,060 and playing cards from the scene. The accused have been taken into custody and are currently lodged at the police station.

A case under FIR No. 183/2025 has been registered at Police Station Handwara under relevant sections of law, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The police reiterated their commitment to curbing unlawful and anti-social activities in the area and urged the public to report such incidents, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
