SRINAGAR: Panic gripped Palth village in Samba district on Sunday after locals discovered three old artillery mortar shells near the Basantar area.
According to officials, explosive shells were spotted in the morning by a local resident who immediately informed the Samba police station. They said police teams, acting swiftly, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure.
Security officials confirmed that the artillery shells were old and inactive. “The Bomb Disposal Squad was called in, and all three shells were safely destroyed on site,” an official said, adding that no casualties or damage were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating how the shells ended up in the area. (KNC)
