GMC Jammu starts surgical procedures in Sir Col Chopra Nursing-home

Jammu, Aug 2: After a gap of ten years, the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu Saturday started surgical procedures in Sir Col Chopra Nursing home with quality medical services to meet needs of the patients aspiring to have private care.

Sir Col Chopra Nursing Home is a private wing of GMC, Jammu.

“It was not working for the last 10 years due to lack of adequate civil infrastructure. Now we have upgraded the facilities. As the renovation work has completed, we have resumed providing medical facilities to the patients of the region at Sir Col Chopra Nursing Home,” shared Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta.

The Nursing Home has 40 air-conditioned rooms with attached washrooms and upgraded medical facilities like centralized air conditioning; centralized oxygen and suction equipped with modular monitors, ventilators and quality furniture etc.

The surgery Operation Theatres (OTs) are well equipped with high end laparoscopic machines; anesthesia workstation; fiber Oticoptic Laryngo Bronchoscope and various other equipment, machinery and instruments.

“A commendable job has been done by the administration by creating an excellent environment for patient care with a well-equipped complex containing 40 patient rooms and Operation Theatre complex,” Dr Gupta, who took personal interest in upgrading the facilities in Sir Col Chopra Nursing Home, points out.

The GMC administration, according to him, has ensured the affordable rates to the patients using medical facilities of this Nursing Home.

“Of course, the medical facilities will be backed by excellent medical infrastructure available in the GMC, Jammu and high quality medical and surgical team available for the patients,” Dr Gupta assured.

The first surgery i.e., laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed after a gap of 10 years on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The procedure was done by senior surgeon, Dr Zahoor Hussain and his team while the anesthetic team consisted of Dr Ashufta, who worked under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Rajesh Mahajan.

Second surgery was performed by Dr Akhil under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Sanjeev Gupta.
