According to officials, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday when a Scorpio (JK20A-1624) carrying the family was travelling from Dharmari to Pattian. As the vehicle reached Sulkh Nallah near Pattian, a sudden landslide triggered by inclement weather buried it under debris, killing Singh (47) and his 10-year-old son Arav on the spot.
Six other passengers sustained serious injuries and were initially taken to PHC Dharmari before being shifted to District Hospital Reasi for specialised care. They have been identified as Surjeet Singh (40), Sharanya Singh (10), Nisha (40), Sarika (6), Pooja Rajput, and Thayer (20), all residents of Thuroo Pattian.
Authorities have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the landslide. Officials said the area has been prone to landslides, particularly during the monsoon season.
