SRINAGAR: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Friday confirmed that Operation Sindoor is still in progress, with the Indian armed forces maintaining a high level vigilance and preparedness across forward areas.

Addressing a defence seminar, General Chauhan said, “The military response targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is an ongoing effort. Our forces remain fully prepared to respond to any provocation from across the border.”

Describing Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of India’s military resolve, he remarked, “There are no runners-up in war.” He emphasized that the forces have been on heightened alert since the operation, with drones and radars actively monitoring the region 24/7.

Operation Sindoor was launched on may 6, 2025 in retaliation of Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. The Indian armed forces targeted and destroyed over nine terror camps operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan and PoK, reportedly killing more than 100 terrorists.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched missile and drone strikes on Indian military installations between May 8 and 10. India responded with counter-strikes on Pakistani military targets. The hostilities de-escalated on May 10 following a ceasefire request from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to his Indian counterpart.

Speaking on the evolving nature of warfare, General Chauhan said the armed forces must be prepared to operate across multiple domains, highlighting the growing role of technology in modern conflict. “The nature of war is shifting—blending traditional combat with cyber, space, and information warfare. This is convergence warfare,” he explained.

He underlined the need for the military to adapt to this changing landscape, stressing that rapid response across domains will be key in determining the outcome of future conflicts. (KNO)
