SRINAGAR: A man and his sister were arrested on Thursday after police recovered heroin worth Rs 70 lakh from their possession in the Miran Sahib area on the outskirts of Jammu city.

According to police, the arrests took place during routine checking at Balol Naka, where a scooty was intercepted by a patrolling team. On searching the vehicle and its riders, the police recovered approximately 550 grams of heroin. The accused have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Tanda in RS Pura, and his sister Navneet Kour.

“The contraband was found concealed in their possession. The scooty has been seized and both the accused have been arrested,” a senior police official said.

An FIR (No. 91/2025) under Sections 8, 21, 22, 29, and 60 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib.

The police said that a detailed interrogation is currently underway to unearth the broader network involved in the supply and distribution of the heroin. “We are pursuing leads to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the supply chain,” the official added.

In addition to the criminal investigation, a financial probe has also been initiated to trace the proceeds from the narcotics trade and take necessary legal action.

Notably, the siblings’ mother, Rajinder Kour, was arrested in June this year by the Punjab Police in connection with a drug peddling case registered at Police Station Shiata.

The operation leading to Thursday’s arrests was conducted by SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Jai Paul Sharma, and PSI Ajesh Singh Jamwal, under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura and SP Headquarters Jammu.
