SRINAGAR: Five people sustained injuries after being attacked by stray dogs in the Dadoora Poshkar area of Khag in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, triggering widespread panic and fear among local residents.

Local sources said that the victims were quickly shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Khag, where they were administered first aid and anti-rabies treatment. However, two of the injured, deemed to have sustained more serious wounds, were referred to JVC Hospital in Srinagar for specialised care. Their condition is said to be stable.

The incident has sparked concern in the area, with residents demanding immediate intervention from the district administration to address what they describe as an escalating threat from stray dogs.

“This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Stray dogs have become a growing danger, especially for schoolchildren and the elderly,” a local said.

When contacted, the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Khag confirmed that the injured were provided timely medical attention, including vaccination, and that two patients were shifted to Srinagar for further treatment. [KNT]
