SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against Shia mourners for allegedly involving in unlawful acts during a Muharram procession on MA Road in Srinagar on Friday.
According to a police statement, the FIR was registered at Kothibagh police station in accordance with Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against the accused persons, who have been identified. However, as the case is still under investigation, no formal arrest has been made in this direction as of now.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to refrain from activities that could disrupt communal harmony during Muharram.
It is pertinent to mention that thousands of Shia mourners took out a march from the Centre of Srinagar city on early Friday morning, commemorating the eighth day of holy month of Muharram, the first month of Islamic lunar calendar.
