SRINAGAR: The Cyber Cell of District Police Kupwara has recovered Rs 11,06,555.82 in multiple online financial fraud cases reported across the district.
According to police, the recovered amount was traced and retrieved using court interventions and cyber tracking methods. The complaints included online job scams, fake investment schemes, fraudulent KYC update requests, deceptive credit SMS alerts, and impersonation frauds.
Several victims, including civilians, government employees, and defence personnel, had fallen prey to these scams, where fraudsters used deceptive methods to obtain money by misleading the victims.
Police said the Cyber Cell acted swiftly by collecting digital evidence and coordinating with financial institutions and service providers. The prompt action enabled the successful recovery of the funds in multiple cases.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against common online frauds such as digital arrest scams, fake online trading platforms, fraudulent credit SMS messages, installation of unauthorised mobile applications, fake job offers on Instagram and Telegram, fake calls claiming to be from telecom operators, fraudulent video calls, and requests for sensitive information through suspicious links.
The public has been advised to report suspicious online activities immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or file complaints at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
