SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar (Crime Branch Kashmir) has filed a charge-sheet against Numan Farooq Wani of Umarabad Zainakote, Srinagar, in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar.

Wani faces charges under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) for allegedly submitting a fake Medical Council of India (MCI) registration certificate and other forged medical documents when he was engaged at SKIMS Bemina, Srinagar.

The case originated from a complaint received by the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, alleging that Numan Farooq Wani had been working as a “fake doctor” at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital Bemina since December 2016, drawing a salary from the government exchequer based on a fraudulent medical registration certificate.

The complaint further asserted that his MBBS and MD certificates, along with his registration from both the MCI and the State Medical Council, were fake. Following the receipt of this complaint, Case FIR No. 01/2023 was registered at the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar (Crime Branch Kashmir). The extensive investigation has concluded, with sufficient evidence proving the commission of the aforementioned offences by Numan Farooq Wani, leading to the submission of the charge report (challan) to the court for judicial proceedings.
