SRINAGAR: Srinagar Police on Saturday attached property worth approximately Rs 50 lakh belonging to a known drug peddler from Anantnag under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The seized asset includes a two-storey residential house along with adjoining land owned by Bilal Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Ahmad Wani, a resident of Sirgufwara, Anantnag. The accused is involved in a case registered under FIR No. 05/2025 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Shaheed Gunj, police said in an official statement.
Authorities confirmed that the attached property had been acquired using proceeds from illegal drug trafficking. Acting under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, police formally seized the immovable property in accordance with due legal procedure.
“The said property shall not be sold, transferred, or otherwise dealt with without prior permission from the competent authority,” the statement read.
Wani, described by police as a habitual offender, is allegedly involved in the distribution of narcotics, particularly targeting youth in the Valley. His activities have posed a serious threat to public health and safety, police noted.
The action is part of Srinagar Police’s broader strategy to dismantle the financial networks that sustain the drug trade. “By targeting and dismantling the financial infrastructure of such networks, police aim to curb the spread of narcotics and safeguard the community,” the statement added.
Police also urged the public to continue supporting their efforts against drug abuse and encouraged citizens to report drug-related activity via the helpline number 9596770550.
“Srinagar Police reiterates its unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse. Together, let us strive for a drug-free, safe, and healthy Srinagar,” the spokesperson said. (JKNS)
