Jammu Kashmir Police Awarded National Honour for Passport Verification Excellence

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has been nationally recognised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for its outstanding performance in passport verification services during the 2024–25 period.

As per official data, the J and K Police finalised 1,34,219 passport verifications between April 2024 and March 2025, showcasing an exceptional disposal rate and a strong commitment to timely service delivery. This marks the first time the force has been honoured at the national level for passport verification efficiency.

The award was presented during the Passport Seva Divas celebrations held at CB Muthamma Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, New Delhi, commemorating the enactment of the Passport Act of 1967. The high-level event was graced by Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs, and attended by senior MEA officials, representatives from 37 Passport Offices, officials from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and key service providers.

One of the central highlights of the event was the recognition of best-performing police organisations in the critical domain of police/CID verifications, an essential component in the passport issuance process.

Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS), DIG CID, received the Certificate of Recognition on behalf of Jammu & Kashmir Police from the Hon’ble Minister of State.

The recognition reflects the tireless efforts of the CID and Police personnel, who have worked with dedication to ensure efficient processing of passport verifications—bringing national pride to the Union Territory and its law enforcement agencies.

Officials noted that this honour underscores the increasing digital efficiency, coordination, and service orientation of J and K Police, particularly in areas involving public-facing services such as passport verification.
