MLA Lays Foundation Stone of School Infrastructure at Shagan; Holds Public Darbar;

Banihal, June 15: National Conference leader and MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, today laid the foundation stone for the construction and upgradation of school infrastructure at Shagan and later held a public meeting and public Darbar, reaffirming the commitment of the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah towards strengthening education, infrastructure and public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Sajjad Shaheen said that the present government has ushered in a new era of development and responsive governance, where the aspirations of the people are being translated into tangible results on the ground. He said that after years of neglect and administrative inertia, developmental works are once again gaining momentum under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He stated that education remains one of the foremost priorities of the government and that the foundation stone laid today reflects a larger vision of providing quality educational facilities to students living in far-flung and rural areas. “If the vision is for generations, investment in education becomes the foremost responsibility of any government,” he remarked.
The MLA highlighted the various developmental initiatives being undertaken across the Banihal constituency, including the strengthening of road connectivity, augmentation of power infrastructure, improvement of healthcare facilities, implementation of drinking water schemes, beautification of major towns and the execution of hydroelectric and other public utility projects. He said that every sector is witnessing renewed attention under the present dispensation.
During the Public Darbar, the MLA patiently listened to the grievances and demands of the local residents. Several issues were projected by the people, including the construction of the Shagan–Lotseer Road and Kundan–Batibass Road, improvement and upgradation of electricity distribution lines, and the opening of a dispensary in the village to provide basic healthcare facilities to the local population.
Responding to the demands, Sajjad Shaheen assured the people that all genuine issues raised during the interaction would be taken up with the concerned departments and addressed in a phased manner, subject to technical feasibility and availability of resources.
As an immediate measure to improve facilities for students, the MLA announced the construction of separate bathroom complexes for boys and girls at the school besides the installation of an RO-based drinking water cooler to ensure access to safe drinking water for students.
He emphasized that continuous interaction with the people remains central to his public service and developmental agenda, adding that governance becomes meaningful only when it remains connected with the aspirations and concerns of the common people.
The programme was attended by Executive Engineers PMGSY and R&B, Officers of Education Department, PHE besides party functionaries, prominent citizens, youth and a large number of residents, who appreciated the government’s efforts in accelerating development and improving public infrastructure across the constituency.
