Srinagar, Jun 10: With the inaugural edition of the Kashmir Champions Football League (KCFL) set to get underway, enthusiasm is running high among players and coaches participating in the much-anticipated tournament.
During training sessions, as per a statement, held at the TRC Synthetic Ground in Srinagar, footballers and team officials expressed optimism about the league’s potential to transform the football landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
The practice sessions witnessed intense preparations, with players from different district-based franchises training together and familiarising themselves with their teammates ahead of the competition.
Masood Ahmad, Head Coach of Anantnag Heroes, described the league as a unique platform that brings together emerging talent and experienced footballers under one roof.
“We are very excited about this tournament. It is a different format and we are looking forward to achieving good results. One of the most exciting aspects is that we have several new faces from Anantnag district who are getting an opportunity to showcase their talent. Many people do not know them yet, but they are eager to prove themselves,” he said.
Masood noted that young district players would benefit immensely from sharing the dressing room with established footballers, including homegrown stars and experienced players who have represented clubs at higher levels.
“The league provides a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to learn from senior players. It will help them grow both as footballers and individuals. We hope football lovers from Anantnag and across Kashmir come forward and support the teams and enjoy the matches,” he added.
Players too echoed similar sentiments, hailing the initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council in launching a district-based football league.
Haziq Baba, one of the participating players, said the league offers a much-needed platform for talented footballers across the Valley.
“We are excited as our training sessions have started. The J&K Sports Council has taken a very positive initiative. This tournament will provide opportunities to many young players who otherwise may not get exposure at such a level,” he said.
The Kashmir Champions Football League has been conceived as a grassroots football development initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing talent from all ten districts of Kashmir. Through district-wise scouting and player selection, the league has brought together promising young footballers alongside marquee players and experienced coaches.
Officials associated with the league believe the tournament will not only raise the competitive standards of football in the region but also create a structured pathway for players aspiring to reach national-level competitions.
As the countdown to the opening matches begins, the energy at training venues indicates that the league has already succeeded in generating excitement among players, coaches and football fans alike.
