Police seize 9 vehicles involved in illegal mining in Baramulla, Shopian; 3 FIRs registered

Srinagar, June 10: In a major crackdown against illegal mining activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police seized nine vehicles including three tippers, one JCB, and five tractors, and registered three FIRs in Shopian and Baramulla districts for unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.

According to the statement, Police Station Zainapora, Shopian seized a tipper, a JCB, and a tractor involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Zainapora area, leading to the registration of FIR No. 83/2026. In a separate operation, Police Post Keegam seized three tractors engaged in illegal mining activities in the Audoora-Rampathri area, following which FIR No. 111/2026 was registered at Police Station Shopian.

Meanwhile, in Baramulla, police seized three tippers during separate enforcement operations for transporting minerals without valid authorization and for carrying illegally extracted mineral material. FIR No. 77/2026 was registered and further investigation has been taken up.

J&K Police remain committed to safeguarding natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals. Members of the public are urged to report such unlawful activities, with assurance that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, police statement added.
