
SRINAGAR: Police in Jammu and Kashmir have seized 11 vehicles, including tippers, tractors and a JCB machine, during separate operations against illegal mining activities in Baramulla and Ganderbal districts, officials said on Tuesday.
In Baramulla, police intercepted a JCB machine allegedly engaged in unauthorised extraction of mining material at Dever Yakhmanpora and imposed a fine of Rs 17,544, which was deposited into the government exchequer.
In a separate operation conducted by Police Station Kunzer, three tippers and two tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were seized. FIR No. 75/2026 has been registered and further investigation is underway.
In Ganderbal, police seized four tippers and one tractor for alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals within the jurisdiction of Police Stations Lar, Safapora and Gund. The cases were subsequently referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed penalties under applicable legal provisions.
Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding natural resources and preventing unlawful exploitation, urging the public to report instances of illegal mining to the nearest police station.
