Situated in the lap of the Sindh Valley, Baba Nagri is the spiritual centre of the Mian family and a seat of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanwi (RA), a 19th-century Sufi saint known for his message of peace, brotherhood, and service to humanity.

The 130th Annual Urs of MianNizam-ud-Din Kiyanwi (RA) was observed with religious fervour and enthusiasm on Monday with a sea of people gathering Baba NagriWangath to attend the Urs.

“Divinity and loving nature of Mian family attracts us to this place. The spiritual solace that you get here is hard to describe,” said Muhammad Aslam, a devotee from Shopian who visits the shrine every month.

The present SajjadaNasheen, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, carries forward the saint’s tradition of Khidmat-e-Khalq (service of the people).

The shrine complex runs a 24×7 free community kitchen and a Sarai (resting place) for the night stay of the devotees. Volunteers from the area and members of the Mian family personally serve devotees during the annual Urs.

“Babaji’s teaching was simple — love all, serve all. The Mian family has kept that alive. That is why people from every faith come here,” said Muhammad Ayoub, a devotee from Rajouri.

Locals say the shrine is a symbol of Kashmir’s syncretic culture.

“Baba Nagri is not just a shrine, it’s a centre of hope. The Mian family treats every Zaair as family. That love brings us back again and again,” said Irfan Ahmad from Kupwara.

Darbar Laar Sharief Wangat is one of the most sacred shrines for Gujjar, Bakerwal, and Pahari people of within and outside J&K.

The Gujjar community all over J&K and in various parts of country have great spiritual attachment with this shrine.

Lakhs of people with deep devotion assemble in this shrine every year to observe the annual Urs of Sufi saint Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanwi (RA) and to pay obeisance at the shrine.
