
SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have seized four tractors and one tipper involved in the alleged illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from the Borihalan and Sugan areas, officials said on Friday.
Acting on routine patrolling inputs, a police team from Police Station Heerpora intercepted three tractors and one tipper reportedly engaged in the extraction and movement of minerals without valid royalty documents. In this connection, FIR No. 47/2026 has been registered under relevant legal provisions and investigation has been initiated.
In a separate action, Police Station Zainapora intercepted one tractor allegedly involved in similar illegal mining activity without mandatory permission. FIR No. 79/2026 has also been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police said the enforcement drive forms part of efforts to curb unauthorised exploitation of natural resources in the district and reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in such activities.
Authorities have urged the public to report instances of illegal mining, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
