Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, on Wednesday said the Cyclothon has been institutionalised as part of the Council’s efforts to promote fitness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among youth.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Bicycle Day Cyclothon in Srinagar, Gul said the event was organised to spread awareness against obesity and physical inactivity while motivating youngsters to adopt sports and outdoor activities.
“Today’s Cyclothon is dedicated to fitness and the fight against obesity. We have institutionalised the Kashmir Cyclothon and are also launching the Jammu Cyclothon campaign, with registrations opening from this afternoon,” she said.
Gul said the Sports Council is aiming for wider participation from across the country in future editions of both the Kashmir and Jammu Cyclothons.
“The department is working to keep children away from drugs, obesity, lethargy and unhealthy lifestyles. Sports and physical activity are important tools in achieving that objective,” she added.
The World Bicycle Day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from cyclists, sports enthusiasts and families.
