SRINAGAR: A counter-militancy operation in the Dorimal forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its fifth day on Wednesday, with security forces continuing intensive search efforts using drones, helicopters and advanced surveillance equipment amid reports of forest fires triggered by explosions.

According to local reports, security forces maintained a tight cordon around the forested area as efforts continued to trace suspected militants believed to be hiding in the dense terrain.

The operation, now in its fifth consecutive day, has involved coordinated aerial and ground surveillance aimed at preventing any movement from the cordoned-off zone.

Visuals emerging from the area showed smoke billowing from forested hills, while reports suggested that explosions during the ongoing operation had sparked fires in parts of the forest belt.

The challenging topography and thick vegetation have posed significant operational difficulties, prompting security agencies to deploy drones and helicopter surveillance in support of ground personnel.

No detailed official briefing on the operation had been issued at the time of filing this report.
