SRINAGAR: Police in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Wednesday intensified district-wide enforcement drives against traffic violations, particularly targeting rash driving and helmetless riding, with action taken against hundreds of two-wheelers.

Coordinated naka checks and mobile enforcement teams were deployed across multiple locations to intercept violators and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. During the operation, a large number of vehicles were seized and challaned for offences including riding without helmets, overspeeding, triple riding, rash driving, and failure to produce valid documents under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials said the drive is part of continued efforts to strengthen traffic discipline, reduce road accidents, and ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians. On-the-spot verification of documents was also carried out, with immediate legal proceedings initiated against offenders.

Authorities have urged motorists, particularly young riders, to follow traffic rules strictly, wear helmets, avoid speeding, and carry all required documents while driving. They reiterated that road safety remains a priority and called for public cooperation in promoting a disciplined traffic culture across the district.
