
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday visited Kupwara district to offer condolences to the family of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid and Langate MLA Sheikh Khursheed following the death of Rashid’s father.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by several legislators, travelled to Langate where he met the bereaved family and expressed his sympathies over the loss.
Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of Engineer Rashid, passed away on May 17, at AIIMS Delhi at the age of 85 after a prolonged illness. He was a retired teacher and was widely respected in the local community.
Following the demise, the Delhi High Court granted interim bail to Engineer Rashid to enable him to travel to Kashmir and attend the last rites as well as condolence gatherings.
During the visit, Omar Abdullah offered prayers for the departed soul and conveyed solidarity with the family in their time of grief.
