SDRF Launches Search Operation in Ganderbal Canal to Trace Missing Girl | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: A search and rescue operation was launched on Saturday by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the Ganiwan hydro power canal in the Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to trace a missing girl suspected to have drowned, officials said.

The missing girl has been identified as Rukhsana Bano, daughter of Shabir Ahmad Kasana, a resident of Syed Basti.

Officials said SDRF personnel, along with local rescue teams, are conducting continuous search operations in the canal to locate and retrieve the girl. However, no trace had been found till the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid recurring drowning cases reported from fast-flowing water bodies in the Kashmir Valley, including rivers such as the Jhelum River and tributary streams like Nallah Sindh, particularly during periods of high discharge and unstable riverbanks.
