MY Bharat delegation meets Amit Sharma; discusses youth engagement for Census 2027

Jammu, J&K, May 21, 2026: A delegation of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Jammu & Kashmir (erstwhile Nehru Yuva Kendra), today called upon Shri Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer and Director Census Operations & Citizen Registration, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and discussed collaboration for youth engagement and experiential learning initiatives in connection with Census 2027. The delegation comprised Nitin Hangloo, State Director, MY Bharat Jammu & Kashmir, Sushil Singh Charak, State Resource Person, MY Bharat J&K, Vivek Kumar, District Youth Officer, Jammu and Anmol Bajaj, Programme Advisor, MY Bharat Jammu.

During the visit, the delegation submitted a memorandum to CPCO Amit Sharma seeking collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operations for onboarding youth of both the UTs of J&K and Ladakh, through the Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) under MY Bharat, so as to get them trained towards this prime most national duty towards the nation to be performed during Census 2027.

While interacting with the delegation, Amit Sharma highlighted the importance of youth participation in Census 2027, which is going to be India’s first fully digital and paperless Census exercise incorporating features such as Self-Enumeration, mobile-based digital data collection and real-time monitoring systems. He informed the delegation about the ongoing Self-Enumeration exercise through the official portal “se.census.gov.in” from 17th May to 31st May, 2026 and encouraged MY Bharat volunteers and youth networks to actively participate in the exercise and motivate citizens to complete their Self-Enumeration within the notified timelines.

CPCO Amit Sharma further stated that educational institutions and youth organisations can play a major role in spreading awareness regarding Census 2027 and generating public participation for accurate demographic data collection essential for governance and developmental planning.

The delegation appreciated the interaction with CPCO Amit Sharma and his team including Manmeet Singh Loomba, Deputy Director and Balbir Singh, Assistant Director and expressed willingness to support awareness generation and youth mobilisation activities relating to Census 2027 and Self-Enumeration across Jammu & Kashmir in the times to come by exploring possibilities of inking an MoU with DCO J&K and Ladakh in this behalf soon.
