SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday arrested four alleged drug peddlers in two separate operations conducted by Police Post Sangam and recovered heroin-like substances and brown sugar from their possession.

In the first operation, a police party established a naka at Halmulla, Sangam, where a Honda City vehicle (JK01AG-4342) travelling from Jammu towards Srinagar was intercepted. During search, around 12.7 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from three individuals identified as Syed Sahil alias “Doggy”, a resident of Firdous Colony, Bemina (at present Rayar, Budgam), Farhan Majeed Wani of Gaberpora Hall, Shopian, and Uzair Ahmad Itoo of Sehpora, Dooru. The vehicle used in the alleged offence was also seized.

In this connection, police have registered FIR No. 127/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and investigation has been initiated.

In a second operation in the same jurisdiction, police apprehended Sartaj Ahmad Allie of Naina Batpora near Naina Bridge and recovered approximately 19 grams of brown sugar from his possession. An FIR No. 128/2026 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Police said efforts are continuing to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the district and curb the spread of narcotics.
